PhD Thesis defense – Wybren Nooitgedagt
On the 3rd of June 2022, Wybren defended his dissertation ‘Whose land is it? Perceived ownership and territorial compensation in settler societies’.
In his research he examined different understandings of collective territorial ownership that people can have in settler societies. He looked at three aspects of territorial ownership: who is seen as the owner, why, and what does that imply? He showed that the extent to which people believe that the land belongs to the Indigenous group and/or the settlers influences their support for compensating the Indigenous group.
